diesel or Diesel?

I have been using the word 'diesel' in my working life for years (25 in fact) and never knew until today that it should always be used with a capital 'D'.

Actually, any word named after a real person's invention or deeds should be used as a proper noun as a way of linking that person to the word.

So, hat-tip to good old Rudolf Diesel - he who has indirectly paid our bills for a few decades.
