Don't forget that UPS systems need regular maintenance and servicing - I was reminded of that fact when I was asked to look at a central London UPS Installation this week.

The cells on a 60kVA UPS installation had overheated and had swollen; this had set off the building alarms and the site was evacuated.

A potential dangerous situation had been averted so no permanent harm done but this can be prevented by regular maintenance program. It may have also been possible to replace individual cells rather than facing a large bill for a complete replacement system.
